Mikulov

Mikulov is located in the southern part of the protected area called Pálava. The heart of the town and its immediate surrounding area offers nature reserve with rare steppe flora. These nature reservations are called Svatý kopeček, Turold or Gallows which is located south of the town. The town retains its late medieval form for many years, so its center was declared an urban historical reserve in 1952. Exceptional atmosphere of this ancient wine town attracts many tourists every year.

 

Mikulov and its surrounding is cradle of viticulture in Moravia. Grape wine is cultivated in every village, on slopes of Palava or Dunajovické hills. Vineyard and Wine cellars are connected by network of wine trails and informative trails that inform about this area.

Only here you can visit wine exhibition of giant wine barrel from 17. century and conservation area with baroque cellars. To this region you can arrive by bike along international cycling trail Greenways which connects Prague and Vienna or Jantarová trail which is for cyclists from Brno. This trail leads through recreational area called Pasohlávky and it continues southern toward to Vienna. The next option is Moravská trail that follows the flow of the river Morava through Lednicko-valtická area toward to Sedlec.
